From n2nov at n2nov.net Thu Mar 14 17:28:22 2019 From: n2nov at n2nov.net (Charles J. Hargrove) Date: Thu, 14 Mar 2019 17:28:22 -0400 Subject: [HamGateNY] Welcome to 2019 and New Sysops Message-ID: It has been a while since there was some chatter on this mailing list of 44Net sysops in NY State. Since last summer we have had a few join us. We have a varied group here with some running regular packet/AX25 systems like JNOS, UROnet/Flexnet/BPQ and some running their own BGP subnets. We also have some looking to link together their various digital repeaters! What may be holding some back is setting up DNS entries and/or their public IP gateways for inclusion in the AMPR encap broadcasts. Without this broadcast, systems do not know how to find each other using IP/IP encapsulation. Once you do have the routing, gateway, DNS and Encap set, there is also the forwarding of mail, bulletins and NTS radiograms that need to be established between the different messaging systems in NY. If you have not yet downloaded it, the layout of NY State Subnet for 44Net IP address assignments and mail/bulletin routing can be found at http://www.nyc-arecs.org/New_York_State_Subnet_Plan.pdf Contact me directly at n2nov at n2nov.net for DNS entries, public IP gateways, etc. Here are the allocations for 44.68.0.0 / 16 - New York State: 44.68.41.0 / 24 - N2NOV - NYC Boroughs [162.247.76.129] 44.68.48.0 / 29 - W2DAB 44.68.60.0 / 27 - W2KPQ - Nassau Co. I know that there are a few across NY State with similar ideas. Let's share what we can with each other. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For those who have expressed an interest in building out the NYC-ARECS BBS network across the five boros using Raspberry Pi computers, this tutorial from my friend John in Michigan will get you started. http://ares-mi.org/downloads/Packet/Configure_Personal_JNOS/html/index.html The particular IP addresses, DNS and routing info will come from me when you are ready. Our plan calls for different 2 meter frequencies in each boro or section of a boro so that we can overlap coverage areas and not crash into each other. Contact me directly when setting up your system. A 25 watt mobile radio with power supply and external vertical base antenna is what you need to set up to go along with your Pi computer and TNC (see https://tnc-x.com/TNCPi.htm). Two TNCpi boards and an additional radio/antenna on UHF will be needed if you will also be forwarding data over the air to another node instead of using your internet connection. -- Charles J. I?m on the Warwick / Chester border I have two of the older pi tnc boards(34 pin) on original pi B?s. I can change them to I2C and stack them on a newer pi to do the forwarding. One is on 2 m @20w & one is on 70cm @ 4w. My 440 amp is down right now but it would get it up to 30w or so. They both have copper pipe J-poles only about 15ft up so they may not have good coverage. Count me in.... best regards, bob > On Mar 19, 2019, at 10:48 PM, Charles J.
